Hola familia!
Half way through this transfer, crazy! but at the same time it was a slower week. Time here is just weird. Yesterday was my first full day of knocking doors, granted it was after church and lunch but 5 hours of just knocking doors, not going in and teaching just walking for 5 hours, haha it was like being at disney land but with out the rides. it was a first, im not complaining just noting it for the record. I realised how hard it is to not have people to teach and how thankful i am that that doesnt hapen that often , or hasnt happened till now.
If you are wondering yes they celebrate valentines day in argentina, and it is not a missionarys favorite holiday, :) and NOT FOR THE REASONS YOU THINK! Haha, its cuz everyone on the street was couples! And it was awkward to do contacts. But the good part is hermana hilton is an awesome cook and made us lemon meringue pie. Yep thats right dad, didnt have chocolate covered oreos, but i did have pie! and it was tasty.
Our investigators are patricia i think ive writen about her and neli and mercedes. Patricia is cool, she is 26 and has a testimony of the church, of joseph smith and the book of mormon and just need to be baptised but her family is really against it, they either try to tell her she is crazy or give her the silent treatment but she knows it true, but she is funny. The other day she told us that she doesnt like to be alone in her house, ( she lives alone in an apt in the city) then asked is we have a day that we do service, we said no day in particular but we can do service, realy we should we just never have things to do, so she asked if we could come and spend an afternoon with her to drink mate [tea] as service, so she isnt alone. Hahah. But no, we are not aloud ( as missionarys) to drink mate. But im thinking i might have to bring it home and make everyone try it.
Then mercedes, she is amazing, she is 14 and takes care of her mom and dad who are both really old, im not writing ages to ofend people, but they need to be taken care of and her mom has parkinsins, but her dad has kidney problems so he is away at the dr alot and she is left to watch over her mom, and she has been doing it since she was 9! Its crazy, we taught her about the book of mormon last time we saw her, its hard to feel so hopeless with her, we want to help but there isnt a ton we can do. So we taught the book of mormon, thats what i have learned so far, how amazing the book of mormon is, that it was writen by prophets of God with his power and they saw us and were told what to write to help us, everyone in thier own way. Its amazing. And i love reading it and teaching about it and from it, the best is that my spanish is not that great but there is always a scripture that says it better then me. i will never have to go through what mercedes has gone through and i will never be able to relate to her, but through the book of mormon she can feel the love of Christ and he can comfort her.
I love that i am meeting people and learning about their lives and who they are, in a different language and culture, there is a recient convert who we visited and he is working with guys who wash cars on the side of the highway ( they are everywhere here) and he was telling a story how he washed the car of a couple from the states on vacation that didnt speak spanish and how it was funy to try and converse with them, but it hit me that last year that could have been me,and its a person and experience that i would probably never think about again, but im friends with the one that doesnt speak english, not the one who does, sory if thats a hard thought to fallow, it was just a weird realisation i had the other day. The work is true, even inthe rain! Like now :) love you all, thanks for the prayers. They help.
Love hermana hanson!
